Vivo X Fold 5 is Here: Slimmer, Lighter, and More Powerful Than Ever

Vivo finally launched the 5th-gen foldable X Fold 5 in China. Foldable phones are getting refined day by day. This fold can change the foldable industry completely. This is the lightest foldable in the world. To decrease the weight, Vivo uses titanium, and the weight is just 217g, while the X Fold 3 Pro is 236g. In hand, it will feel like a normal phone. Because the Vivo’s flagship phone, X200 Pro, is heavier than the X Fold 5. Now, let’s break down the key specs that make this device stand out.

Build

When folded, the X Fold 5 measures 9.2mm while unfolded, just 4.3mm. which is very slim. There are two different variants, one is Titanium and the one is Green and White Pine. Titanium is lighter and thinner than the Green and White Pine variant. The titanium version is about 9.2mm and 217g, while the Green and White Pine version is about 9.7mm and 226g. For a Foldable build quality, the hinge plays one of the most important roles. Hinge is the backbone of a foldable phone. High-strength steel and carbon fiber are used as the hinge of X Fold 5. This hinge is engineered to be as strong and as lightweight as possible. This hinge has an integrated antenna to improve signal strength.

Display

When you unfold the phone, you find an 8.03-inch 2K resolution AMOLED panel. It supports 1 – 120Hz variable refresh rate, which is called LTPO technology. It also supports 4500 nits peak brightness, Dolby Vision. Peak brightness means this panel can brighten up to 4500 nits in a small area of the screen when consuming HDR content. The foldable screen is very sensitive. UTG glass is used to protect this foldable panel.

When folded, this phone has a 6.53-inch full HD+ LTPO AMOLED panel. It also supports a 120Hz refresh rate and Dolby Vision. 2nd Gen Armor Glass is used to protect the cover screen.

Perfromance

Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is used as the chipset. This is last year’s flagship chip. It is an Octa-core chip and based on 4nm fabrication. This device is paired with 12&16 GB LPDDR5X RAM and 256/512 GB/1 TB UFS 4.1 storage. It runs on Android 15 with OriginOS 5. This UI is mostly optimized for productivity. It supports many multitasking features split-screen, drag-&-drop, etc. This UI is also optimized for Apple devices.

Camera

In terms of cameras, Vivo X Fold 5 comes with five cameras, three rear and two front-facing cameras. The two front cameras are one is in the top of the cover screen and another on top of the unfolded screen. Both cameras have 20MP resolution. In the rear cameras, all three cameras have a 50MP resolution. The main sensor is Sony IMX921 with OIS and an ultrawide and a 3x optical IMX882 Periscope telephoto sensor. All five cameras are optimized by ZEISS.

Battery

In the battery, Vivo engineers have done an impressive job. This phone offers a massive 6000mAh battery. It uses 4th-gen silicon and 2nd-gen semi-solide-state battery tech. This battery is a very hard-working project. The engineer also gives 80W wired charging, 40W wireless charging support. Which is also more impressive.

Secutiy

A side-mounted fingerprint sensor is used to unlock the phone. It is the highest-rated water-resistant foldable phone in the world. It is rated IPX8 and IPX9+. But no dust resistance. For a foldable phone, dust resistance is also more important. Dust can damage phones easily.

Price

In China X Fold 5 launch has a little bit low prices considering foldable phones. The starting price for is 12/256 GB variant is CNY 700, converted to $975, 12/512 GB is CNY 8000, converted to $1115, 16/512 GB is CNY 8500, converted to $1,255, and the last one is 16/1 TB is CNY 9,50,0, converted to 1,325.
